Speedmaster Kicks into High Gear with a Unified System

When the engine of Peter Kencevski’s 1971 Ford blew in a street race, he identified the need for superior parts. Taking matters into his own hands, he crafted a better alternative himself—marking the inception of Pete’s Performance, which later became Speedmaster and today designs and manufactures 25,000-plus aftermarket automotive parts. Speedmaster’s products, primarily for V8 muscle cars, bring the best of modern technology to classic cars.

“Every business needs two things: human capital and technology capital, and you'd be hard pressed to find somebody that beats the technology portion that NetSuite has to offer.” Jason Kencevski, CEO, Speedmaster

Building a Global Automotive Brand

US expansion revs up growth
After focusing on the Australian market, Speedmaster got a big break about 25 years ago. A chance run-in with a major US auto parts distributor opened up a new customer base and spurred the company to greatly increase manufacturing capacity. As the new generation became more involved in the business, they embraced new technology that greatly increased operational efficiency.
Struggles with SAP
As Speedmaster focused on building a scalable business, it first tried SAP Business One in 2013. But the on-premises ERP proved problematic: instances for Australia and the US weren’t connected, which limited visibility and created duplicate work. The company had to regularly increase server capacity to support growth. After just three years, Speedmaster decided to start over.
A ‘living, breathing’ system
In search of a system that could support and connect its entire business, Speedmaster selected NetSuite OneWorld to manage its global financials, including numerous currencies, regulations, and business units. NetSuite’s system architecture means updates made anywhere are pushed out across the system, while real-time reports and better forecasting capabilities help the business control inventory costs.
Cranking up operational horsepower
Human handling time for any parcel is now 10 seconds or less with the help of supply chain modules including NetSuite Warehouse Management System. Speedmaster also added the NetSuite Connector for eBay and Amazon to pull sales and other data from third-party marketplaces into NetSuite. The retailer now sells 3,000 items in AutoZone stores and wants to partner with other large auto retailers.
